To provide a filling material for constructing an underground wall, which has high vibration-proof properties, excellent holding property of the underground wall, and long-term stability.SOLUTION: A filling material for constructing an underground wall, characterized in that it contains at least montmorillonite particles, a polymer compound having an anionic functional group in a molecular chain, and water, has three-dimensional structure in which tabular bond of montmorillonite particles is connected in a three-dimensional direction and forms a moisture retaining portion that retains the water, and water is held in the moisture retaining portion, and the tabular bond of the montmorillonite particles is obtained by binding side portions of the montmorillonite particles to the molecular chains of the polymer compound to bond a plurality of montmorillonite particles via the polymer compound.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
