To provide a gesture detection device for a vehicle and a gesture detection method for a vehicle, which can enhance the detection accuracy of a kicking gesture.SOLUTION: A gesture detection device 120 comprises a determination unit 122 that performs gesture determination processing for determining whether or not a user has performed a kicking gesture on the basis of a position change of a user's foot in a plurality of images shot by a camera 80. The determination unit 122 determines that the user has not performed the kicking gesture when the foot approaching a vehicle body 20 suddenly stops, and continues the gesture determination processing when the foot approaching the vehicle body 20 does not suddenly stop.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
