To provide a gesture detection device and a gesture detection method for improving user convenience.SOLUTION: A gesture detection device 90 has a position acquisition part 93 that acquires a position of a hand and an elbow in an image captured by a camera 60; and a gesture determination part 94 that determines whether a user has performed a gesture in accordance with a change in the hand position and elbow position within a plurality of images with different photographing timings. The gesture determination part 94 determines that the user has performed a gesture when a positional relationship of the hand and elbow continues to be in a second positional relationship after positional relationship of the hand and elbow positional relationship continues to be in a first positional relationship.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
