To provide a pier capable of allowing to be continued construction of a bridge while eliminating the need for removal work during flood season.SOLUTION: A pier 1 is used to renovate or build bridges. The pier 1 includes: a pier substructure 10 constructed on a river 9; a pier superstructure 11 supported by a pier substructure 10; and a lifting device 15 that raises and lowers a part of the pier 1 including the pier superstructure 11 to a height according to the water level of the river 9.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
