To provide an erection support device 6 of an upper column 1, and an erection support method of an upper column 1 which safely erect an upper column 1 directly above a lower column 2, and support erection of the upper column 1.SOLUTION: An erection support device 6 of an upper column 1 for supporting erection of an upper column 1 carried in a manner that it is laid so that its longitudinal direction is substantially horizontal includes: a lower column side base part 12 which is mounted on the upper end of a lower column 2; an upper column side base part 11 which is mounted on the lower side of the lower end of the upper column 1 in the laid state; moving means (ellipse insertion hole 21b) which has a pair of connection arms 20 for pivotably connecting the upper column side base part 11 to the lower column side base part 12 with a front and rear direction X as a rotation axis, and allows the pair of connection arms 20 to be capable of moving the upper column 1 in a radial direction, with a direction from the upper column 1 side to the lower column 2 side along a rotation radius of the pair of connection arms 20 as a radial direction; and a movement regulation part 24 for regulating movement in the radial direction of the upper column 1.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
