To provide a honeycomb structure improved in heat generation uniformity.SOLUTION: A honeycomb structure comprises: a columnar honeycomb structure part which has an outer peripheral wall, and a partition wall which is provided at inside of the outer peripheral wall, and partitions and forms a plurality of cells forming a channel from one end face to the other end face; a first electrode layer which is provided in a belt shape in a direction where the cells extend on an outer face of the outer peripheral wall; and a second electrode layer which is provided in a belt shape in a direction where the cells extend on the outer surface of the outer peripheral wall, the second electrode layer provided facing the first electrode layer across a center axis of the honeycomb structure part. In a cross section orthogonal to a direction where the cells extend, when a coordinate axis is arranged in a radial direction, a coordinate value of a centroid O is 0, and a coordinate value of the outer surface of the outer peripheral wall is 1.00 R, an average heat capacity at 25°C per unit volume of prescribed first and second outer peripheral regions is greater than an average heat capacity at 25°C per unit volume of the first center region in the honeycomb structure.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2A
