The report presents urban and rural housing characteristics from the 1983 Annual Housing Survey for the United States, by inside and outside standard metropolitan statistical areas and each of the four geographic regions. The Annual Housing Survey was designed to provide a current series of information on the size and composition of the housing inventory, the characteristics of its occupants, the changes in the inventory resulting from new construction and from losses, the indicators of housing and neighborhood quality, the characteristics of recent movers, and the characteristics of urban and rural housing units. The report consists of six basic parts. Part A provides data on general housing characteristics, part B on indicators of housing and neighborhood quality cross-classified by financial characteristics, part C on financial characteristics, part D on recent mover households, part E on urban and rural housing characteristics, and part F on energy-related housing characteristics.
