Cultural Resource Assessment of Altus Air Force Base, Jackson County, Oklahoma. MIPR No. 95-45
A cultural resource assessment of prehistoric and historic resources was conducted for Altus Air Force Base between January 9-13, 1995, by the National Park Service. The assessment was part of the cultural resource archeological baseline survey requested by Headquarters Air Education and Training Command. The assessment included a review of previous archeological investigations, an archeological reconnaissance survey of a proposed 43.10-hectare (106.5-acre) area for military family housing expansion, and the identification of buildings and structures built between 1942 and 1955. The base encompasses 1,602.16 hectares (3,959 acres) of base-owned land and an additional 776.60 hectares (1,919 acres) of easements. The base has 23 aircraft maintenance buildings, 18 administrative buildings, 70 auxiliary buildings, and 800 military family housing unit. Four additional buildings are present on annex locations.
