Performance of Thin Wall Concrete Pipe
The report contains the results of tests and analyses of the soil-structure interaction of buried thin-wall concrete pipes. Physical tests of thin-wall concrete pipes were conducted in test frames designed and built at California State University, Sacramento. Parameters needed for subsequent computer analysis were established with physical testing. The computer model provided freedom for study of the influences of varying geometric and material parameters. The finite element program utilized was CANDE 'A Modern Approach for the Structural Design and Analysis of Buried Culverts'. Physical testing was used to spot check and validate the computer models. CALTRANS' Standard Plans and Standard Specifications were studied for compatibility with results. Recommendations for implementation are included.
