A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
This paper discusses the use of plastics in building, that is in the context of the Building Regulations. It should be appreciated that in fires in buildings there are two major components: the structure of the building; and its contents. In general, the greatest fire hazard lies in the contents of a building, and in the main there is very little control in this area. Control can be applied to the structure of a building through the Building Regulations and various local requirements, these being designed to protect escape routes and save life.
