Proposed Master Plan, Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Maine
The report describes the proposal for the National Park Service to approve a Master Plan for the management and use of Acadia National Park that will minimize visitor use impact and improve the quality of visitor experiences. The principal method proposed in the Master Plan for meeting dual park objectives of preservation and use is to establish a firm park management boundary within which are defined zones of varying degrees of land acquisition and control. Some adverse effects are: possible use of eminent domain, restriction of access to some park areas, high costs of pollution control, utilization of parklands for roads and visitor use facilities, and restriction of automobile traffic.
