Data on the Physical History of House Lots 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, and 11; Waterfront Lot J, and the East Side of Union Wharf, 1660-1869 (Some Derby Street Houses and Inhabitants): Salem Maritime National Historic Site, Massachusetts
The study presents and analyzes the documentary evidence needed to complete Historical Base Maps for the Salem Maritime National Historic Site area. It provides a physical history of House Lots 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, Waterfront Lot J and the East Side of Union Wharf. Buildings discussed include the Ropes/Crowninshield, Giles/White, Benjamin W. Crowninshield, Ingersoll/Forrester, and Richard Derby houses. The chain of titles for the houses are presented with most of them dating back to the mid-1600's. A brief historical survey with biographical sketches of the inhabitants is also provided with references to their families, professions, and place in Salem's society.
