Preserving Historic Trails. Conference Proceedings Held on October 17-19, 2000 in Acadia National Park, Maine
For three coloful fall days in October, trail enthusiasts and historic preservationists from across the county and met at Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island in Maine for a confrence on historic hiking trials. The Friends of Acadia, Acadia National Park, and the NPS Olmstead Center for Landscape Preservation sponsored the conference to focus on appropriate rehabilitation and maintenance techniques for preserving the historic character and features of trails. Acadia, with onver too miles of marked hisotirc hiking trails and many more miles of unmarked trails, offered an ideal setting to discuss the challenges faced in managing trails trodden by millions of fee a year.
