A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Proposed Great Sand Dunes National Monument Wilderness, Colorado
The National Park Service, Department of the Interior, proposes that 32,930 acres of Great Sand Dunes National Monument, Colorado, be designated as Wilderness and be added to the National Wilderness Preservation System. Wilderness designation is intended to assure permanent minimization of impact attributable to human development and use of the highest inland dunes in the United States. Beneficial effects, touching ecological, cultural, social and economic aspects of our national interest, will predominate. These will be diffuse but long-term effects. Minor indirect impact in the form of increased camper use will probably occur. Adverse effects in the form of restriction of some kinds of research and elimination of vehicular access are to be expected.
