Earthquake Evaluation Studies of the Auburn Dam Area. Volume 5. Seismology
Part of an 8-volume report prepared by independent consultants for the Bureau of Reclamation's proposed Auburn Dam, the evaluation studies presented in this volume are the results of two tasks. The findings of the first task, a review of a few, specific, historical earthquakes to evaluate sources of maximum intensities, and the intensity of each in the vicinity of Auburn Dam, is described in a 'historical seismicity study'. A summary of earthquake data, intensity and isoseismal maps, methods of search and a summary of data for events are presented. The second study was an instrumentally recorded survey of the microearthquake activity in the Sierran Foothills region between Oroville and Auburn. Hypocentral locations and focal mechanism of the earthquakes were estimated.
