Mullet Key Beach Erosion Control Project, Pinellas County, Florida
The report describes the proposal for nourishment of a 6,750-foot reach of beach about 210 feet wide and an equal stretch of fronting protective beach 60 feet wide at mean high water, and construction of a 420-foot-long anchor groin and 1,150-foot-long revetment, in Jacksonville, Florida. About 325,000 cubic yards of sand will be dredged from an offshore borrow area and placed on the beach. The adverse environmental effects indicate that dredging will temporarily degrade water quality, cause the beach to be temporarily closed for public use, and will destroy most benthic invertebrates in bottom sediments and cover those in the beach nourishment area.
