A Comparison of 1977 and 1978 NFPA National Fire Experience Survey Results at the National and Fire Department Level
A comparison of the results of the 1977 and 1978 NFPA Fire Experience Survey and an analysis of the results for departments that responded to both surveys indicate that there were no significant differences in the average reported results from year to year in some categories, i.e., all fires, fires in residential structures, fires in vehicles. However there were some significant differences in other areas: departments that protect less than 100,000 people reported a higher number of fires in 1977 than in 1978 and vehicular incidents reported by departments which protect from 250,000 to 499,999 show more deaths in 1977. Overall, the report concludes, most statistics did not change significantly from year to year. Where significant differences were noted the report suggested that analysis of additional years data would be necessary to determine the existence of trends.
