Versailles, Missouri. Comprehensive Community Plan
The City of Versailles, Missouri, County Seat of Morgan County, with about 2,500 persons in residence, is located 50 miles southwest of the State Capitol at Jefferson City, at an elevation of 1,037 feet, where the watersheds of the Missouri and Osage Rivers divide. Nearby Lake of the Ozarks contributes significantly to the commercial environment, while population growth includes many retirees, attracted by the fine climate and convenience of the County Seat. Healthy industrial development is encouraged by an active Industrial Corporation, who also plan to sponsor a Housing Authority, to provide adequate dwellings for future workers and management. Homes are needed for young families as well as for senior citizens and low income groups. A survey of business and community opinion, published in August, 1969, in the 'Background for Planning' report, established goals and objectives upon which recommended improvements have been based. These include a Community Facilities Plan, Transportation and Circulation, Utilities, Central Business District Improvements, and standards of performance for Community Design. A five-year Public Improvements Program, with professional cost estimates for recommended items, provides a schedule of priorities to fit the city's financial capacity. The Land Use Plan also supports a proposed zoning ordinance and subdivision regulations. (Author)
