A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
This study was initiated to determine the state of the art of prefabrication technology and the availability of prefabricated facilities. Manufacturers, universities, research institutes, government laboratories, and technical organizations were contacted, and the data gathered were compiled for evaluation. Briefly, this effort showed that prefabrication in the United States is in an advanced stage of development and is continuing to develop. A wide variety of prefabricated systems and buildings is available on the market and will satisfy some current Air Force requirements. Given an incentive, the prefabrication industry will develop products designed to satisfy additional particular Air Force requirements. Prefabricated buildings provide better solutions than conventionally constructed buildings for some Air Force requirements. (Author-PL)
