Condensation and mould growth in houses
A field study of occupied municipal houses in Aberdeen, Scotland, prompts these observations by a senior lecturer in construction technology at the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture, Robert Gordons Institute of Technology. His findings on the actual behaviour of these conventional (only relatively high thermal capacity) houses with intermittent heating suggest that unsatisfactory conditions can still occur at higher temperatures and lower moisture contents than conventionally calculated. Extra insulation will lower the critical minimum room air temperature, but the problem will remain if the house is poorly heated.
