This study addresses coupling of the finite element method and reliability methods for introducing the stochastics finite elements. First we describe two sensitivity analysis methods: perturbations around an average point and the Neumann expansion. We then show how to implement the FORM/SORM methods (First/Second Order Reliability Methods) for the reliability analysis based on the evaluation of the reliability index β and then on an approximation of the probability of failure. Algorithms coupling finite element software and reliability software are proposed. An example is described for the calculation of a fracture mechanics problem.
