Describes a system known as the Design/Build concept which seems to offer an appropriate scheme for electronic companies. In this system, the building is erected around a standard frame, with the team architecture designing the outer structure and cladding. Since the frame is standard, the cost is known from the outset and the builder's engineering department need only design the foundations, taking the customer's floor boarding requirements into account. Engineering and architectural costing and design proceed in parallel and the use of standard parts simplifies the pricing which is done by the contractor early in the process, thus saving a considerable amount of time. The average building for the electronics manufacturer is of the order of 10000 sq ft and it is considered that the Design/Build approach can save something like two months; a total of eight months from inception to completions said to be typical.
