A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
A comparison between the requirements for tile adhesives according to the standards of the European Union and the DIN norm is presented. The difference in the tests for the tensile adhesive strength and the deformability were discussed in detail. The new EN 12004 standard will define and unify quality requirements for tile adhesives throughout Europe, and lay down clear test criteria for characterizing different product classes, including workability and processing properties such as sag resistance, wetting and open time, but naturally also the adhesion of the bonded tiles, specified in terms of tensile adhesive strength. Whereas DIN 18156 specified only one single minimum requirement for tensile adhesive strength, EN 12004 defines two classes (C1 and C2) for cementitious adhesives. EN 12002 describes a test method for the deformability of the adhesives.
