Solutions for minimal VOC high performance wood coatings
Novel waterborne acrylic resins have been developed with nonhomogeneous morphology based on a keto-hydrazide selfcrosslinking chemistry. Paints based on these resins meet current environmental requirements, particularly as they have an extremely low VOC content. The combination of new polymerization techniques for the control of the dispersed particle morphology and selfcrosslinking chemistry offer a very interesting balance of properties compared to traditional emulsion polymerization techniques. This type of binder allows the formulation of wood coatings with an excellent balance of film-forming ability under adverse conditions, flexibility, gloss, excellent hot-block resistance, water and chemical resistance, and wet adhesion. Coalescing agents are not required.
