In-situ shearographic nondestructive testing of aging concrete structures
In-situ testing of concrete properties is one of the most important tasks in condition appraisal of concrete structures. At present, the core test is commonly used for testing concrete; but this involves coring concrete samples for subsequent laboratory testing, thus resulting in a slow and destructive process. Furthermore, the number of cores has to be limited and their positions, such as the tension zones of a structure, would greatly affect the measured strength. This paper reports the novel use of shearography for nondestructive testing of concrete modulus of elasticity and concrete strength that does not require coring. The preliminary results have demonstrated that the technique has great potential for development into a practical tool for in-situ testing of concrete properties.
