A new interferometric radar for full-scale testing of bridges. 2. Ambient vibration tests and operational modal analysis
Recent progress in radar techniques and systems leaded to the development of an interferometric radar, suitable to the application in full-scale testing and monitoring of civil engineering structures. The main characteristic of the new radar system, named IBIS-S (Image By Interferometric Survey), is the possibility of simultaneously measuring the (static or dynamic) displacement of several points of a structure with high sensitivity. The new sensor and its working principles are described in a companion paper together with the results of live-bad static tests performed on a full-scale bridge, recently completed in the neighborhood of Forlanini Avenue (Milan, Italy). In this paper, the application of IBIS-S sensor to ambient vibration survey of the same bridge is presented and discussed.
