Quimper Village
Site Planning Workshop
Senior Cohousing Site Plan Programming doesn’t always have to be done by architects, but good programming is like anthropology. This chapter discusses the design of Quimper Village, which was specific and appropriate to the unique needs and desires of the group, while drawing inspiration from the successful design of other communities. The Quimper Village LLC currently has an option on the 6.3 acre site (on F Street near the intersection with Redwood Street). The site is currently an open field bordered primarily by small fields, gardens, and houses, as well as two senior housing facilities. Twenty‐eight homes will be built, optimally creating a sustainable and cooperative community. With ample gently rolling land, the site did not dictate how to lay out the buildings. Sixteen design solutions were tested, evaluated, and revised. The site plan developed in the workshop was the best solution.
