Multi‐storey Building with Eccentrically Braced Frames
This chapter illustrates and discusses the design steps and the verifications required by EC8‐1 for a multistorey building equipped with eccentrically braced frames (EBFs) in “split‐k” configuration and shear links. It provides a general description of the geometric features and design assumptions (i.e. materials, loads, seismic action, etc.). The chapter describes the assumptions for structural modelling and the methods of analysis 369 adopted to calculate the seismic induced effects. It discusses the design and verifications for both ultimate limit state and damage limitation limit state. The design of links consists in selecting the appropriate profiles to match the seismic demand and the relevant lengths per link to guarantee the expected dissipative behaviour. Owing to both the structural configuration and the applied vertical loads, the maximum flexural and shear forces act at both link ends. This implies that the beam verification is implicitly satisfied once the strength verifications of all links is satisfied.
