New AFGC Recommendations on UHPFRC: Chapter 1 – Mechanical Characteristics and Behavior of UHPFRC
This first chapter on new AFGC recommendations for the construction addresses the various mechanical characteristics of ultra high performance fiber‐reinforced concrete (UHPFRC). The mechanical characteristics include effect of heat treatment, compressive strength, tensile strength, static modulus of elasticity, shrinkage, and impact strength. The values commonly obtained with UHPFRC are stated, together with the test methods used to obtain them when non‐standard methods are required. The chapter also describes the various tests to be carried out throughout the development of a project involving UHPFRC. The many recent applications of UHPFRC, especially in bridge engineering in France, have produced an extensive body of experience upon which updates to the AFGC document have been based in order to “fine tune” the definition of suitability testing, amongst other things.
