New AFGC Recommendations on UHPFRC: Chapter 3 – Durability
This third chapter on new AFGC Recommendations deals with recent researches and realizations concerning ultra high performance fiber‐reinforced concrete (UHFRC) durability. The first part of the chapter looks at the “conventional” durability indicators, and more specific characteristics associated with UHPFRC because of its intrinsic qualities. These results show UHPFRCs have a very good response, essentially due to no capillary porosity and a very fine porous network. The second part of the chapter deals with the major updated features of AFGC recommendations, i.e. temperature behavior (freeze‐thaw resistance and fire resistance). The chapter also dicusses the delayed ettringite formation (DEF), which is a pathology possibly affecting certain cementitious materials when they are subjected, at an early‐age or a later stage, to preservation at a high temperature (starting from 65°C approximately) for a significant duration (several hours to several tens of hours).
