Elimination of Nitrogen Trichloride in Dechlorination Practice
This article discusses several methods useful in overcoming the NCl3 problem. These include aeration, activated carbon filtration, dechlorination by S02 in conjunction with the use of NH3 and Cl2 to produce a final chlorine‐ammonia residual, and dechlorination of HOCl by NH3, with the attendant procedure of adjusting the final chlorine‐ammonia residual. The degree of success and usefulness of these procedures will vary considerably, depending on the type of water treatment plant, raw‐water conditions and level of free‐residual chlorination being applied.
