This chapter is about building places that where people feel a strong sense of belonging, identity, and accountability; where everyone knows each other’s names, cares about each other, and are prepared to support each other in times of need. The design of the home is based on intergenerational neighborhood design and is of great importance, but the neighborhood site design concepts ultimately make the biggest difference to the long term success of a community‐enhanced neighborhood. When a site has the space, the one‐to‐three‐story scenario is generally the least expensive way to build. Dig deep programming generates hundreds of design criteria and that’s what moves aculture forward. Cohousing groups strives for why architects design multi‐family housing to deliver sustainability to the greatest extent feasible and to promote diversity best.
