Validation of Elevator Traffic Simulation Software
An elevator traffic simulation tool has several uses. One of the main uses is to test and compare different control systems. Most of the software models, however, can be verified by comparing the simulated values to the analytical models. This chapter shows some very simple examples on how to verify and validate simulator models. Verification assures that the elevator traffic simulation software models are correctly implemented. Most of the models can be verified against analytical models, such as the elevator kinematics, or passenger generation models. In validation, the simulation should be conducted with realistic input parameters. Elevator monitoring systems can collect detailed data of all the elevator cycles and passenger calls, or landing calls, which then can be fed into the simulator. In passenger generation, passengers arrive randomly in batches where the batch size distribution follows the measured distribution.
