EMD‐Enhanced Vehicle Scanning of Bridge Frequencies
This chapter is concerned with the bridge frequencies contained in the vehicle response. It adopts the empirical mode decomposition technique to decompose the response recorded of the vehicle into a set of intrinsic mode functions, which were then processed by the Fourier transformation. The vehicle scanning method initially proposed for extracting the bridge frequencies from the dynamic response of a passing test vehicle works mainly for the first frequency. In order to unveil the key frequencies associated with the vehicle‐bridge system, an analytical formulation will first be conducted, based on the assumption of small mass ratio for the vehicle relative to the bridge. The response history data in the cases studied above are obtained by the finite element simulation, which represent the ideal cases that are free of any noise pollution.
