A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Flexible Sensors Based on Porous Polymer and Polymer Foams
With the rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart wearable electronics, there is a growing demand for lightweight, flexible, highly sensitive sensors with fast response times. Piezoresistive pressure sensors with high flexibility are desired for advanced applications such as health monitoring, mechanical analysis, robotic tactile perception, etc. Conductive porous polymer foams, with a lightweight nature and adjustable mechanical properties, are promising candidates for flexible pressure sensors. Precisely regulating the microstructure and material composition of conductive polymer foams (CPFs) is the key to enhancing the sensitivity, linearity, response time, stability, and durability of their sensing properties. The fundamental piezoresistive sensing mechanism, the crucial properties, sensing property evaluation approaches, prevalent fabrication processes, and novel applications of piezoresistive pressure sensors based on porous polymer foams will be covered in this chapter.
