The invention discloses an adjusting device and an adjusting method for supporting axial force of a steel supporting system. The adjusting device comprises a first end plate, a second end plate, a first diagonal bar, a second diagonal bar, a third diagonal bar, a fourth diagonal bar, a displacement adjuster and a force sensor, wherein the first diagonal bar, the second diagonal bar, the fourth diagonal bar and the third diagonal bar are sequentially hinged; small-angle opposite angles are hinged to a first lug plate and a second lug plate correspondingly; displacement of large-angle opposite angle points is changed through the displacement adjuster, so that acting force of the first end plate and the second end plate on the other two small-angle opposite angle points reaches required acting force; and by means of a large-angle triangular opposite supporting system, the effect of generating large supporting force through small tensioning force is achieved. The adjusting device has the beneficial effects of being simple in structure, convenient to operate, low in cost, high in safety and the like.
