The invention relates to the technical field of ceramic composite materials, in particular to a silicon dioxide ceramic-based composite material and a preparation method thereof. The preparation method comprises the steps that the edge of a flat fabric is coated with organic silicon resin, after curing is completed, the flat fabric is soaked with silicon dioxide sol, and drying and high-temperature treatment are carried out and the silicon dioxide ceramic-based composite material is obtained. According to the invention, the hollow quartz fibers are adopted for preparing the fabric with the high fiber volume content, organic silicon resin is used for conducting hydrophobization edge sealing treatment on the edges of the fabric, the ends of the hollow fibers are hydrophobized, and the silicon dioxide sol is difficult to enter the hollow fibers in the dipping process, so that under the condition that the density of a composite material matrix is not reduced, the overall density of the composite material can be reduced. Compared with a material prepared from solid fibers, the prepared composite material has better dielectric property and heat insulation property, and meanwhile, can keep higher mechanical strength.
