The invention provides alpha-semi-hydrated gypsum and a preparation method thereof. According to the preparation method of the alpha-semi-hydrated gypsum, preliminary dissolution of the dihydrate phosphogypsum is promoted in an acid solution environment at a relatively low temperature (60-90 DEG C), impurities such as organic matters adsorbed on the surface of the phosphogypsum can be removed, then the reaction temperature (95-110 DEG C) and the acidity are improved, and the crystal modifier is added, so that the crystal transformation reaction is promoted and the morphology is effectively controlled. Besides, the process conditions of the method can be matched with the existing dihydrate process, the dihydrate phosphogypsum produced by the dihydrate process is mixed with phosphoric acid, and a crystal modifier is added, so that the dihydrate phosphogypsum is converted into a high-strength alpha-semi-hydrated phosphogypsum crystal with short columnar morphology, and meanwhile, residual phosphorus in the dihydrate phosphogypsum can be recycled, so that the method is suitable for industrial production. Filtrate and washing water after crystal transformation are recycled, and the method has the advantages of low energy consumption, wide applicability and less pollution.
