The invention relates to a terbium aluminum garnet magnetic optical rotation transparent ceramic and a preparation method thereof, the composition of the transparent ceramic is (Tb1-xMx) 3 (Al1-yNy) 5O12, M is Mg, Ca, Sr or Ba, x is 0.2 at%-1.0 at%, N is Si or Ge, and y is 0.2 at%-1.0 at%. The preparation method comprises the following steps: by taking tetraterbium heptaoxide or terbium sesquioxide powder, aluminum oxide powder, magnesium oxide powder, calcium oxide powder, strontium oxide powder, barium carbonate powder, silicon dioxide powder or tetraethyl orthosilicate and germanium dioxide powder as raw materials, carrying out wet ball-milling, drying, sieving, tabletting and cold isostatic pressing, and pre-sintering to remove organic components; and sintering in vacuum to obtain the transparent ceramic with high optical quality. The transparent ceramic prepared by the invention has high transmittance and high magneto-optical performance in a visible-near infrared band, and has the advantages of low impurity residue, simple preparation process, short production period, no need of atmosphere assistance and pressure sintering and the like.
