Analysis of the development of urbanised areas in Vilnius city / ; Vilniaus miesto urbanizuotų teritorijų plėtros analizė.
Since the very foundation of any town, urbanisation is the process of concentration of people and their activities. Development of cities and towns, or simply of urbanised residential areas, is a multidimensional phenomenon embracing various parts of the urban system. Urban system development serves people's needs, but in order to secure sustainable environment, strong society, high economic rates, cities must be planned in the context of harmonious development. The object of research – urbanised areas of Vilnius City. During the research, the pursued goal was to analyse urbanised areas of Vilnius City and to assess if the actual city development complies with the planned directions and priorities of the city development. Urbanisation processes in the world and Lithuania were discussed in the project. Legal – regulatory analysis of the contents of urban planning legislation was conducted. Trends in residential areas development of Vilnius City were analysed. The main directions and priorities of the city development, determined on the basis of the general plan solutions, as well as their implementation were discussed. In order to fulfil the set objectives, the contents of literary sources were thoroughly analysed. The methods of documentation analysis, summary were applied when writing the thesis. Data processing was conducted by applying grouping methods, presenting them through percentage and graphic modelling method. The strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis was conducted. In order to identify and determine the importance, expert research of the harmonious city components was conducted – algorithm to identify the relevance of the criteria was drawn. The key priorities of the city development set in the general plan solutions are implemented partially, no new entry into the city from the west, through Pilaitė residential district, is being developed or even planned.
