Alternative D, the preferred alternative, recommends a balanced mix of land allocations designed to sustain a high level of timber harvest; to protect the qualities of the Rogue and Illinois rivers (which, respectively, are in and being studied for inclusion in the National Wild and Scenic River System); to provide Wilderness for recreation and other uses; to provide recreational opportunities; and to protect and manage the soil, water, fish, wildlife, timber, visual, and other resources" P. ii-iii [4-5].
