Spherical elastic plastic shock propagation
Response of infinite, elastic, perfectly plastic medium governed by von Mises yield condition is considered, containing spherical cavity whose surface is subjected to uniform time-dependent pressure applied suddenly; spherically symmetric, elastic plastic shock configuration is proposed under assumption of small strains; response is obtained by finite-difference methods for pressure histories in which applied stress has its peak value at instant of application; stress is sufficiently large for yielding to occur, and decays thereafter monotonically.
