Development of concrete admixture to improve freeze-thaw durability
Use of new silicone admixture (Dow Corning 777) to determine effect on resistance of concrete to freezing and thawing in presence of deicing chemicals; specimens containing admixture showed more than 50% improvement in durability compared with air-entrained control specimens; scaling slab specimens continuously exposed to 2% sodium chloride and undergoing one freeze-thaw cycle per day showed improvement in scaling resistance; and increase in compressive and flexural strength, and bond to reinforcing steel.
