A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Construction was completed on first double-curvature, thin-arch Morrow Point Dam designed by Bureau of Reclamation; dam is part of Western Colorado hydroelectric project that will supply 120,000 kw of power; in construction operations, contractor stabilized canyon walls with rock bolts; diversion tunnel was driven through right abutment to divert flow; 360,000 cu yd of concrete were required; various instruments were embedded in concrete and wired to terminal boards in galleries of dam to maintain surveillance of structural behavior of dam during filling of reservoir.
