Morrow point underground powerplant
Underground plant is to have capacity of 120,000 kw; it is under construction in western Colorado on Gunnison River; type and location of power plant were governed by thin, double-curvature, concrete-arch Morrow Point Dam and topographic features of terrain; geologic investigations were carried out with limited number of drill holes and five exploratory tunnels; in-situ stresses were calculated using borehole gage process and surface strain relief method using Whittemore strain gage; rock properties were determined by laboratory tests on core samples taken from site.
