Sharavathi hydroelectric project
Outline is given of project which starts with storage reservoir of 4419.26 million cu m at Linganamakki, some 9.65 km upstream of falls, from which water is led into reinforced-concrete conduit along hill range running on left bank; dam under construction is composite structure 2383.54 m long; length of stone masonry dam in middle is 1749.56 m, earth dam 634 m, and maximum height above river bed is 42.68 m; dam is provided with eleven 15.24×32 m radial gates on spillway for flood regulation; there are three sluices for water supply to concrete conduit for which regulator gates 2.46×4.23 m have been provided, with one stoplog gate; transmission system of Sharavathi project.
