Design and construction of Homestake dam
Dam is compacted rockfill with upstream impervious face of asphaltic concrete; geology of site and design and construction of this dam, which forms key storage reservoir for Homestake Project, are described; 250 ft high dam has crest length of nearly 2000 ft and volume of 3 1/2 million cu yd of embankment; spillway consists of unlined rock chute with broad crested control section partially closed by fuse plug of erodible embankment; project will supply water to cities of Aurora and Colorado Springs.
