New vehicular tunnel uses aluminum extensively as lining material throughout its 1/2 mi length and also in ventilation system; different extruded sections provide support for cladding so that no bolt heads or fixings are visible; general data on tunnel under Clyde; tunnel ventilation; outer cladding of "Rigidal" type A trough section sheet was fitted to provide clean lines and give additional strength combined with protection from weather.
