The invention discloses a sintering process for a silicon carbide rod. The process includes: putting a silicon carbide rod blank in a vacuum container of a 20-50mm mercury column, then raising the temperature to 350DEG C at a rate of 5-10DEG C/min and maintaining the state for 20min, then raising the temperature to 920DEG C at a rate of 10-12DEG C/min and maintaining the state for 30min; embedding the silicon carbide rod blank subjected to first sintering into mixed powder of silicon dioxide and carbon, carrying out ohmic heating and performing second sintering under a high temperature of 2000DEG C, and crystallizing silicon carbide again to obtain a silicon carbide rod electric heating element. By putting the silicon carbide rod blank in the vacuum container of the 20-50mm mercury column to perform first sintering, a binder can evaporate, and also impurities in the binder can be removed. The technological parameters are reasonable, the production efficiency is high, and the product quality is good.
