The invention discloses a preparation method of a magnesium oxysulfate cementitious material. The preparation method comprises adding tap water and magnesium sulfate into a reactor, carrying out stirring at a rotation rate of 57-67r/min for 1-3min, adding light calcined magnesia into the mixture, carrying out stirring at a rotation rate of 57-67r/min for 1-3min, adding an additive into the mixed solution, carrying out stirring at a rotation rate of 57-67r/min for 5-8min, putting the mixture into a mold, carrying out vibration compaction, putting the mold subjected to vibration compaction into a standard curing box, carrying out standing at normal temperature for 12-18h, carrying out demolding, and then carrying out maintenance for 28 days so that the magnesium oxysulfate cementitious material with high mechanical strength, good water resistance, flat and uniform material surface, no cracks, breaking strength of 6.1-16.0MPa, compressive strength of 59.2-118.3MPa and a softening coefficient of 0.86-0.96 is obtained.
